Biography
Engine-8 is a viridian energy construct, a holographic projection given form by the late Green Guardsman, Tau Li?. In fact, 8 is a construct of constructs, the totality of millions of hard light nanobot pseudocolonies operating collectively as a single entity. Its solidity an illusion, were it not for the subtle forces its population of nanites exert 8 would appear as a glowing green cloud.
When first shaped, Li emulated swarm behavior in small machine clusters via her granted creative powers. She then went on to shape Engine-9?, unknowingly sealing her fate and that of an entire galaxy. As a pseudo-virtual construct 8 can only be reabsorbed into the Central Beacon via Tau Li?'s power ring. Oddly, while searching for it, 8 achieved self-awareness and self-sustenance, inevitably discovering its lack of defined purpose. Engine-8 now seeks oblivion.
Joining The Viridian Guard, the root of its origin, 8 attempts to find meaning through utility. Until he returns to The Source, it will have to do for now.

Personality
Given his unspoken (though obvious) nihilism, Engine-8 is not afraid to go to the front lines to aid his allies in combat. While he himself may not value his existence very much, he does value those of his team and of whatever innocents he encounters and will defend them to the best of his ability.
Powers
Viridian Energy Constructs
Like other green guardsmen, Engine-8 is capable of manifesting energy constructs comprised of viridian energy. However, unlike his fellow guardsmen who accomplish this feat via a token, 8 is capable of this feat by way of himself being composed of the very energy he wields. Engine-8 can use this energy in the typical manner, propelling himself bodily, protecting himself from the vacuum of space, and producing high-yield energy emissions.
Nanite Swarm
Being comprised of a cloud of nanobots that alternate between a solid-light and pure-energy state (thereby making him little more than a sentient hologram most of the time), Engine-8 can literally send discrete portions of himself to allies in order to affect them on a cellular or molecular level. Being so far from their supercolony core (which is, itself, what is linked to the Central Beacon), these nanites eventually fade away after performing their medical function. Given time, 8 regenerates those lost nanobots.
